Do you hear my cries?
Mother of Abraham as they culturally refer to her as, lives in a 4x4 room that is very dark and cold. It is infested with roaches, flies, cobweb and dirt.
Her bed acts as a couch, table and anything else it is needed for during the day. her bed sheets and clothes are just as dark and dirt as the walls of the room. The fridge is broken, her wheelchair is broken and so is her feet, so she sits all day with a makeshift warmer next to her feet to keep her limb legs from becoming frozen.
Mother of Abraham is well over seventy years and has no money to attend to her basic needs, and no family or close friends to help her. She lives her life crying out to God to give her strength, protect her and provide her basic needs.
Living in the garbage city is already a difficult task for a young and able body person but for an elderly woman, the stakes to survive are by far greater. Mother of Abraham lives in this small room alone and almost forgotten as outside her home lays loads of garbage piles that further hides the misery that lies inside her room.
This woman that continues to love God and trust in him to provide, needs major assistance that will seem very basic to others. She is in need of a fridge to keep her food fresh, a new wheelchair that she can move around easier an care for herself better, new and clean clothes and a new bed. We visited this woman and carried a food parcel to attend to her immediate need.
She cried for joy and praised God for blessing her in such a great way. What seemed so simple to us, was a great treasure for this woman who fully understood the concept of trusting God and being grateful for all things.
As her bright blue eyes filled and overflowed with tears of joy for the faithfulness of God, it was also tears of sorrow as she recounted her many needs.
